The South Tipperary Military History Society autumn field trip took place today to Kilkenny. First port of call was Stephen's Barracks where we took in the fine Military Museum, the old Detention Centre and the monument to Lion, the South Wales Borderers dog (who survived Isandlwana, but not Kilkenny). Later on we stopped by St. Canice's Cathedral and viewed the war memorials in the church including the 1914-18 and 1939-45 ones in the porch. Highlight of the day was the stop at the War House, Ballingarry scene of the abortive 1848 Rebellion where military history took place in Mrs McCormack's front room (and bedrooms). Damn the Peelers.
