3rd Tipperary Brigade Memorial This memorial consists of a Limestone Obelisk mounted on a plinth approximately 4.5 m in height overall and 1.8 m wide at the base. It stands in the centre of St. Michael's Cemetery in Tipperary on the Republican plot. Interred here are 13 members of the Brigade killed during the War of Independence and on the Anti-Treaty side in the Civil War. The monument names 82 members of the Brigade who died and are buried elsewhere. The names are in Irish so I've added the English translations as best I can. 7th and 5th Batt names are on the north face, 4th, 3rd and 2nd Batt on the east face and 8th, 6th and 1st Batt on the south face. 13 of the men are buried in the adjoining plot with their burial places marked by inscribed grave markers which form a wall on either side of the memorial.

Croppies Grave, Carlow [/img] After the Battle of Carlow on May 25th 1798 the dead United Irishmen were buried in a sandpit near the town. The site was known as Croppies Hole or Croppies Grave and this memorial marks the spot today. The trees are believed to have been planted by the mother of three of the dead rebels. www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~irlcar2/croppies_graves.htm

St. Mary's Church of Ireland, Templemore Churches, particularly Protestant Churches, often have memorial plaques on the walls. These are in Templemore.

I am interested to know if Captain James Looby and his brother Adjt. Lawrence Looby are actually interred here or is they are of the number who are buried elsewhere. Thanks!

The Lobys are buried in Dualla. I had a photograph of their headstone but it's MIA. If you want it I can get there in a day or two and photograph it again.

Thanks for reply. Yes, I would very much like to have a photograph of their tombstone(s) and like to know EXACTLY where in Dualla they are buried and if their parents Lawrence Looby and Mary Colwell aka Caldwell are buried there too? I had rather thought that they'd been buried in Ballysheehan, as I know from newspaper accounts that Lawrence was killed there on the 19th of December while attending his brother James' wake. Just received notice this morning from the Rootsweb Co Tipperary Mailing list of a cemetery located in Ballysheehan, you can see photographs here: www.igp-web.com/IGPArchives/ire/tipperary/photos/tombstones/tipperary-ballysheehan/index.html . Only actual tombstone photographed though was that of Paddy O'Loughlin (also a 2nd Battalion 3rd Tipperary Brigade member).

www.bureauofmilitaryhistory.ie/reels/bmh/BMH.WS1300.pdfAn account of the death of Paddy Hogan is in this Witness Statement This small monument is in Kilfeakle Cemetery, Co. Tipperary. It's near Sean Treacy's plot and was originally placed at the cemetery gate where the bodies of James Looby and Bill Delaney were dumped.
