fold3.com is an American site worth looking at. Found my Gt Gt Grandfather's US Navy pension application from his wife in Dublin using this site.
recommend Ancestry for access to British Army WW1 medal rolls, Silver War Badge records, some pension and service records. Also some Royal Irish Constabulary records.
Findagrave.com is worth a search.
