I am a first year PhD student at NUI Galway, and my research project involves examining Irish men who went to Italy in 1860 to fight for the Papal Battalion of St Patrick, and who then proceeded to the USA to fight in the American Civil War. I have found plenty of examples of Irishmen who had fought for the Papal Battalion and the Union in America, but I cannot find anyone who fought for the Papal Battalion and the Confederate southern states.
Through an examination of the list of men who travelled to Italy in comparison with lists of Confederate soldiers, I have come across the following men from Tipperary whose names match those of Confederate soldiers. The problem is however that I have no way of finding out if they are the same person or just share a relatively common Irish name. Unfortunately I have no other info on them other than that the Passport Office issued their passports in May or June 1860.

If these men are the same people, then they more than likely would have returned from Italy in October/November 1860 and travelled to the US South (probably into New Orleans) before the following April/May 1861 when the Union began to blockade Confederate ports. If anyone can help me with this it would be greatly appreciated.
