To my knowledge the following were the garrison towns in South Tipp:
Clonmel, Royal Irish Regt, Arty ?
Cahir, Arty ?
Fethard, 7 Lancers
Has anyone got more info ?
I also read recently that during 19th Century a troop of cavalry was stationed at Ballinamult. The horses were taken each day to Four-Mile-Water for watering, hence the name.
Seems a bit far to go for water but maybe they also needed the exercise.
